Clothes Swap

Clothes swapping is not just about trading in the items you're no longer wearing for items you adore, it's also about the community of people expressing themselves through what they wear and creating a more sustainable way of revamping your wardrobe.

The clothes swap began in 2014 on Shane's living room floor when ten women decided to trade clothes over a bottle of wine... and some snacks. The camaraderie that was created as women tried on each other clothes, found new items they treasured gave items they loved but no longer wore to friends and strangers was the inspiration to provide this opportunity for all.

Shane can't remember the exact moment she decided to go for it and book the hall but it was a shot that paid off as sixty people streamed through Balgownie Hall excitedly swapping their clothes and getting to know each other. The events have since grown and have included an event at the Innovation Campus that involved 500 Swappers and over 10,000 items of clothes. And the bigger the clothes swap, the more options there are for everyone.

Shane always believed in Op Shopping as a way of lowering our environmental footprint and creating a more sustainable future but also as something enjoyable to do, to create an individual style and express yourself more fully.

The Clothes Swapping volunteers are like a family now and come back, again and again, to participate in this incredible event that is only growing. The volunteers sort all the clothes into size groupings, petite through to bodacious, to help the Swappers find items they will love. And at the end of each event volunteers help pack up any leftover clothing to take to a donation point.
